About the Platinum Card from American Express
One of the top-of-the-line cards available today, the Platinum Card from American Express feels like an exclusive club. The card has a steep yearly membership of $550 but also offers amazing rewards and exclusive benefits that may exceed the cost of membership for frequent travelers. It offers 5x points for booking airfare and hotels, access to airport lounges around the world, credits to cover bag check fees and ridesharing services and an exclusive Platinum Travel Service to help you find and book travel services. New users get 60,000 points for using the card to make $5,000 worth of purchases in the first three months.

Benefits
For frequent travelers, this card is a fantastic option. The Platinum Card benefits have been designed to make traveling easier every step of the way. The card makes booking flights and hotels easier, covers baggage fees and onboard meal credits, as well as offering a monthly Uber credit to help travelers get from the airport to their final destination. 5x the points on airfare and hotel charges can save travelers a nice chunk of change.

Drawbacks
The $550 a year membership fee is very high compared to many other cards on the market. If you only travel a few times a year you may not use the credits and other benefits enough to justify the high membership fee. American Express cards are not accepted at as many retailers as cards from Visa or other credit providers, so you may difficulties completing some transactions. The card has a low reward rate on most non-travel related spending.
